This series consists of digital collages, using imagery found on the
internet. A disparate variety of web sources is harvested from, with the primary interest being to gather photographic imagery of formidable resonance and texture. Selections are then subjectively integrated into a balanced and cohesive composition. That is, I endeavor to make a larger picture using representations which are already authoritative, very big and full on their own.

The aim is, so to speak, to thread retrieved imagery through the needle of semiotics. Some risk exists in the use of imagery that has topical or mythical resonance, or symbolism that is charged. I strive to combine powerful signification without distorting the integrity of the subject, losing equilibrium of meanings, or over-aestheticizing political underpinnings.

I wish to consider the cultural importance of each particular representation and to preserve significance, without overwhelming any larger reading of the unified work. Each picture is cropped, scaled, and set in juxtaposition against other images to encourage visual haiku and equipoise. When this balance is achieved there may be a synthesis of significance, and an elevated visual experience.
